Many thanks to Mary Thompson for keeping the Mother’s Day tradition of going out to dinner.  This year Mary took over for Marion (thanks Marion for getting it started in the first place).

On Mother’s Day over the last several years, a group of singles always went out for a Mother’s Day brunch somewhere, this year it was at the Paramount Theatre.

1st Annual Mother’s Day weekend event “Celebrating Mothers” at the Paramount
There was a three-day event of dinner shows with the Keepsakes singers, a Variety Show and on Sunday a Fashion Show.

Paramount Theatre, 420 N. Florence St., Casa Grande, AZ, 85222
The theatre was the town's leading entertainment center for more than 60 years. Long Theater Enterprises, which purchased the theatre in 1942, filed for bankruptcy in 1989. The theatre reopened but closed again in 1992.  Debbie Martin purchased the 650-seat theatre in 1993. Through the Heritage Fund Grant, she was able to restore the outside of the theatre to its original Spanish Colonial Revival style and reconstruct the ticket booth in its original location. The theatre is listed on the Casa Grande Historic Register and the National Register of Historic Places,

Close to a dozen of us went to this delightful event, consisting of three (3) local merchants - Inge’s Fashions, JC Penney, and Maurices. Compliments of Debbie Martin (Owner of the Paramount) all Moms received a glass of Champagne and a Rose.  In between each of the fashion presentations, we were entertained by Christine (Keepsakes), kids saluting their moms, a choreograph dance arrangement, Christine’s Mom singing, Christine’s very talented niece, and a guest male singer who got Christine started.  There were also a number of gifts given as door prizes. Food was a buffet style brunch catered by the Iron Skillet

Inge's Fashions,113 East 4th Street, Casa Grande, AZ 85122 - (520) 876-4000 Inge sat at our table for a bit and was very informative, as many of us were unacquainted with her product line. Missy Sizes SM-XL, Plus Sizes 14/16W – 6X, Sportswear, Dresses, Lingerie, Accessories and more.  Check out her web site for additional information Price range for items at these stores start at $5.00 and up...

Thursday - April 18, 2013

Thanks to Lynne we had a fun night at Rustler's Rooste, atop a butte of South Mountain.  A group of over 20 of us were seated on the 2 floor where the large glass windows overlooked an unparalleled views of Phoenix and Sky Harbor.  The restaurant opened in 1971 as a Cowboy Steakhouse and has great food and some novel entertainment.
As we entered we passed by a live longhorned steer (Horney with 4 ft horns tip to tip). As we had our dinner, we enjoyed the views, live country western music and a few of us enjoyed the thrill of being a kid again sliding down the "Tin Slide". (Years ago when the Rooste was a cabin, the slide was a part of a clever escape plan from bounty hunters) from the second floor to the first floor dinning area.
We also provided our own entrainment with laughter and conversation and the presentation to Larry for being our president over the last 4 years. Thanks Larry.

April 18, Dinner Out

Rustler’s Rooste is a 2-story building with our lounge on the top level. Stroll over the indoor waterfall and take the slide into the dining room. (for the faint of heart, there is a staircase). Both areas are bordered on the north side by large plate glass windows that provide an unparalleled view of the city lights.
From the South Valley:
Follow I-10 West to Baseline Rd. Exit Baseline Rd. (exit #155) Turn left (West) on Baseline Rd. Get into the left hand lane and make a left (South) on Arizona Grand Parkway. Follow the signs to the Rustler's Rooste.
Meet at the Mailboxes at 4pm
Contact Lynne at 7265 if you wish to attend
